35 years in the past, hip-hop bought a brand new queen.

Queen Latifah launched her debut album, All Hail the Queen, in November 1989, and at this time, World Cafe correspondent John Morrison talks about how that album shook issues up.

“Rap music traditionally has, in fact, been a male-dominated house — not simply demographically however, like, in perspective. Queen Latifah, with this report, actually got here onto the scene and challenged that.”

Morrison talks about how Queen Latifah carved out an area for ladies in hip-hop and adjusted the best way girls had been seen by the lads within the business. Plus, he’ll get into the legacy of that debut album.
