Toronto Metropolis Opera has introduced the eight finalists who’ve been chosen to compete within the second annual Macina Voice Competitors. The occasion will happen on February 22, 2025 as a showcase for Canadian younger opera singers.

The eight rivals had been chosen from 110 video submissions from throughout Canada. They’ll be competing for money prizes totalling $5,000, together with efficiency alternatives, in entrance of a reside viewers.

The Competitors

The Macina Voice Competitors was established in 2024 to honour TCO’s longtime Creative Director, Giuseppe Macina. It celebrates and continues his dedication to younger artists, and offering them with efficiency alternatives.

“Giuseppe Macina impressed and mentored many younger skills, serving to them hone their craft and discover their voices on stage,” says John Minardi, Board President and long-time TCO Refrain member.

“This competitors continues his legacy by providing a platform for the subsequent era of opera stars.”

Every finalist will carry out two arias chosen to showcase their artistry, technical expertise, dramatic interpretation, and stage presence. The judges embrace a panel of business professionals that embrace:

  • Adrianne Pieczonka, Soprano & Chair in Voice, Glenn Gould College
  • Anna Theodosakis, Stage Director, Canadian Opera Firm
  • Rebecca Townsend, Artist Supervisor, Stratagem Artists
  • Sandra Horst, Refrain Grasp, Canadian Opera Firm & Program Director, UofT Opera
  • Jennifer Tung, Creative Director, Toronto Metropolis Opera

For the viewers, after the rivals have sung, and the jury is deliberating, the Toronto Metropolis Opera Refrain will carry out basic opera choruses. The viewers can even vote for the Viewers Prize.
